How GBP Suspension Patterns Differ by Location
Suspension patterns are not uniform across markets. In our caseload, US businesses account for the largest volume of suspensions — particularly service-area businesses operating in major metro areas like New York, Los Angeles, Houston, Chicago, and Miami. These cities have a high density of competing GBP listings.
In the UK, the suspension pattern skews differently. Duplicate-listing issues are common in our London cases, while businesses in smaller cities — Birmingham, Manchester, Leeds, Glasgow — often come to us with address verification issues related to how UK businesses structure their service areas. UK enforcement also applies stricter scrutiny to trades categories like electricians, plumbers, and locksmiths.
Canada presents a third pattern. Toronto and Vancouver come up often in our Canadian intake, driven largely by home-service categories. Quebec-based businesses face additional complexity — French language requirements for business names and descriptions can inadvertently trigger policy flags when English descriptions are used for a Quebec-registered business. Business Types We See Often
Certain business categories come up often in specific markets. Across all three countries, home services (HVAC, plumbing, roofing, electrical), legal services (lawyers, personal injury firms, immigration attorneys), and healthcare practices (medical clinics, dental offices, chiropractors) are common in our cases. These categories attract fraudulent listings, so legitimate businesses in them get extra scrutiny.
Real estate and auto repair cases are common in our US intake. In the UK, letting agents and estate agencies face ongoing compliance challenges around residential address requirements. Service Area Businesses — A Location-Specific Challenge
Service area businesses — plumbers, electricians, cleaners, landscapers, and other trades that go to the customer rather than having customers visit a fixed address — face a unique challenge with Google Business Profile. Google requires SABs to hide their physical address and list only their service areas. When this is configured incorrectly, or when the service area covers too many cities relative to the size of the business, Google's automated systems can suspend the listing without warning.
SAB suspensions are a common case type we handle across all three markets. The recovery process differs from a standard suspension — it requires restructuring the listing's service area configuration, not just submitting a generic appeal. Our team has specific experience with SAB compliance across US states, UK regions, and Canadian provinces, including the postal code radius rules that differ between markets.
