Answer first: if a doctor or medical-practice Google Business Profile is suspended, patients searching your clinic name or “doctor near me” no longer see the pin, reviews, or click-to-call. This is a storefront healthcare listing: Google’s representation guidelines expect the public address, trading name, and category to match the real-world practice. Help lists doctors as individual practitioners — a clinic pin and a named-physician pin are different objects. GBP Fixers observation (not a measured rate): cases cluster around clinic-versus-practitioner name collisions, group-practice call-centre reuse, specialty stuffing, and video that captures patients or charts. Google does not publish a HIPAA-specific Business Profile video policy. If the email is vague, open the appeals tool — see suspended without reason — and do not create a second listing. Google alone decides reinstatement. Free case review · (855) 939-4111.

Should the Google listing use the clinic name or the practitioner name?

Help’s individual-practitioner section lists doctors by name. That is not permission to run a pin farm of every attending at the same suite, and it is not a reason to retitle the clinic listing as “Jane Chen MD Best Cardiologist.” The Maps name has to be the real-world name on the door — clinic or person — not both mashed together with a specialty slogan.

Multi-physician clinic (several public-facing doctors)

The organisation creates a location profile for the practice. Each public-facing physician who can be contacted at that clinic during stated hours may have a separate practitioner profile. Help says the practitioner title should include only the practitioner’s name — not the organisation name. “Riverside Family Medicine — Dr. Chen Cardiology” at the clinic address is the collision we see.

Solo physician under a branded clinic

If that doctor is the only public-facing practitioner at the location, Help’s format is [brand/company]: [practitioner name]. Example shape: “Riverside Family Medicine: Jane Chen” — not two live pins for the same desk, and not “Riverside Family Medicine Best Primary Care Weight Loss.”

Credentials on the name (MD, DO, MBBS, FRCS)

Help allows title or degree certification on a practitioner profile (examples include Dr. and MD). DO, MBBS, or FRCS belongs there when it is how that physician is actually named. Those credentials are not keyword padding on the clinic listing, and an NPI or GMC number does not belong in the Maps title.

Hospital-employed vs independent practice

A health-system clinic on a hospital campus still needs the name patients see on that suite’s door — not the system legal entity if the fascia says something else, and not the employed physician’s personal name as the clinic title. An independent practice using the hospital’s street number without the correct building and suite is a pin mismatch.

Who must not create a profile

Help: support staff should not create their own Business Profiles. Medical assistants, schedulers, and locum agencies booking for a corporation are not individual practitioners and are not eligible. A “patient coordinator” pin at the clinic address is extra spam, not a second doctor.

One physician, many specialties

A practitioner should not have multiple Business Profiles to cover all of their specialisations. Primary care, weight-loss visits, and in-office procedures from one clinic are still one eligible location plus, if Help’s practitioner tests are met, a named-physician profile — not a pin per CPT code.

Guidelines for representing your business on Google · Name guidelines · Duplicate listing · Dentists hub (dental DSO / DDS naming is a different page).

What multi-location and group-practice risks show up on Maps for doctors?

A medical group, IPA, urgent-care chain, or health system is not a dental DSO waiting-room clone and not a law firm’s multi-office pin set. Each staffed clinic that can receive patients is a location. Marketing cities, empty satellite exam rooms, and a physician’s kitchen used only for telehealth are not.

One clinic, several physicians

One practice profile for the location. Separate practitioner profiles only for public-facing doctors who can be reached at that suite during stated hours — named as the person, not as “Clinic + Cardiology.” Nurses and schedulers should not create profiles.

Real multi-location / health system

One listing per staffed, patient-accessible address — not one pin per ad-group suburb or MyChart region. Local fascia vs system legal name must match how patients see the door. A shared scheduling number that also sits on other Maps pins is a Help-shaped phone risk. Account-level flags can hit every clinic on the same Google account.

  • Urgent-care chain: each bay that actually receives walk-ins can have its own profile. A “hours vary by demand” pin at a closed evening site is not a second eligible clinic.
  • Hospital outpatient / campus clinic: the building, wing, and suite on Line 2 have to match the directory and the walk patients take. Filming the main hospital lobby for a third-floor specialty clinic is a pin mismatch.
  • Satellite / visiting-specialist desk: an exam room used two days a month is not automatically a second location. If patients cannot visit during the hours on the profile, do not publish a second pin.
  • Telehealth-only or hybrid: hide or omit a non-patient-facing address. Do not publish a home office as a walk-in medical storefront. Hybrid practices that keep a real waiting room should show that clinic.
  • Help’s chain rules expect the same name across locations in a country unless the real-world fascia consistently differs. Invented Maps titles (“Riverside Family Medicine Westside Urgent”) when both doors say the same clinic name are name stuffing, not multi-location hygiene.
  • Agency or health-system IT still listed as Owner after a management change is an access problem. Use request ownership — see ownership hijacked — instead of publishing a “clean” replacement listing.

Does stuffing specialties or extra medical categories into the listing trigger a suspension?

Help says the name should reflect the real-world business name on the storefront, website, and stationery — and that unnecessary information in the name is not permitted and could result in suspension. Physician marketing has its own version: specialty slogans, “best / top / concierge,” city stuffing, and a category for every service line. Categories answer “this business is,” not “this clinic offers.”

  • Clinic listing name = fascia / trading name patients know (for example “Riverside Family Medicine”). Not “Riverside Family Medicine Best Primary Care Urgent Care Weight Loss Botox [City].”
  • Specialties belong in categories and in the services / description fields when they describe what the business is. Family practice, Internist, Medical clinic, Urgent care center, Cardiologist, Dermatologist — pick the few that complete “this business IS a…”. Do not stack every side service.
  • A practitioner should not run multiple Business Profiles to cover every specialisation. Primary care, men’s health, and in-office aesthetics from one suite are still one eligible clinic pin plus, if Help’s tests are met, named-physician profiles — not a pin farm.
  • Do not add Cosmetic dentist, Lawyer, or other unrelated categories to “cover” adjacent searches. Only use a category for work the practice actually is. Urgent care plus family practice is a real dual-identity question — pick the honest primary.
  • Quality and location extras (“Best,” “Top Rated,” “near hospital,” city names that are not on the door) belong out of the title. See name guidelines.
  • The Sacramento urgent-care case documented on this page involved a live-listing change around services and categories. That is case history about a service-menu edit — not a rule that every specialty update suspends a clinic.

How do you complete video verification without showing patient PHI?

Clinic video fails when the recording is the wrong suite, a full waiting room of identifiable patients, or an exam-room tour of charts and monitors. It is not the same evidence problem as an HVAC truck in a parking lot, a dental operatory walkthrough, or a law-office file wall. Google does not publish a HIPAA-specific Business Profile video-verification policy. HIPAA is a US healthcare privacy statute for covered entities — not a Google Help heading — and it is not Google’s rule for UK or Canadian clinics. Help does prohibit publishing private or confidential information, including sensitive records and images that contain personal information, as Business Profile content. GBP Fixers observation (not a Google HIPAA rule): film empty public areas. We prepare the walkthrough. We do not join Google’s verification call, and we do not claim Partner status speeds that call.

  • Start outside: fascia or hanging sign with the practice name, then the public entrance, then the suite number in a medical plaza or hospital campus. The pin on the profile has to be the pin you walk into.
  • Waiting room / reception: empty or after hours, with the practice name visible on the desk, wall, or window vinyl. A branded vehicle in the lot can support a house-call or hybrid practice; it does not replace a clinic that claims a storefront.
  • Posted licences in public view (state medical-board certificate, GMC display in the UK, provincial-college certificate in Canada) help reviewers connect the name on the wall to the name on the listing. NPI and licence numbers do not belong stuffed into the Maps title.
  • Do not film identifiable patients, wristbands, paper charts, EHR or PACS screens, appointment books, or exam-room whiteboards. Reviewers need to see that this clinic operates at this address. They do not need PHI.
  • A recording in another tenant’s hallway, a colleague’s exam room across the campus, or a stock “clinic” reel is a location mismatch. If video already failed, stop uploading the same clip — see video verification failed.

What if the listing looks suspended without a reason, or someone else owns it?

A vague email is not proof Google has no policy basis. Help’s designed explanation lives in the appeals tool (reason + policy link). A former practice manager, marketing agency, or health-system admin who still holds Owner is a different path: request access, do not publish a duplicate clinic.

Why do doctors and medical practices get suspended on Google Business Profile?

Unlike service-area trades, a staffed medical clinic is a storefront — patients visit in person or by appointment, the address is public, and the clinic is easy to verify in principle. GBP problems still happen because of how practices are named, grouped, and scheduled — not because the waiting room is empty.

GBP Fixers observation — patterns we see in physician and medical-practice recovery work, not a ranked industry-wide statistic:

Clinic listing and physician personal pins colliding at one suite

Help allows public-facing doctors their own profiles under practitioner rules — named as the person, not as the organisation. Pins titled with the clinic name plus a specialty at the same suite are the conflict we see.

Specialties and quality keywords stuffed into the clinic name

Adding ‘Primary Care’, ‘Urgent Care’, ‘Weight Loss’, ‘Best’, or city names beyond the real-world practice name is unnecessary information in the name field. Help says that is not permitted and can result in suspension. Put specialties in categories.

Category sprawl across every service line

Help asks for as few categories as possible that describe what the business is. Stacking family practice, internist, urgent care, dermatologist, and medical clinic as if they were keywords is sprawl, not a menu.

Health-system or group-practice phone reuse

Help asks for a number that connects to the individual location, under the business’s control, rather than a redirecting central helpline when a local line exists. A MyChart or call-centre number that also sits on other clinics’ Maps pins is a medical-group reuse risk.

Telehealth home or mailbox shown as a walk-in clinic

If patients never visit that address, publishing it as a storefront is an eligibility miss. Hybrid practices should show the staffed clinic they actually receive patients in.

Agency or health-system account ownership not transferred

A listing sitting in a vendor’s or parent-system Google account becomes unmanageable when the contract or employment ends. That is ownership recovery, not a reason to create a second clinic pin.

Our GBP Suspension Patterns 2026 report covers healthcare and professional-service listing patterns from governed caseload — labelled as observation, not a physician census.

Is this a clinic pin, a physician pin, or both colliding?

Medical practices mix these two objects more than trades do. Taking the wrong first action — merging a real named-physician profile into the clinic, or publishing a third “clean” pin — makes the case harder.

🏥

Clinic / practice location

When: Patients search the practice name on the door. One profile per staffed, patient-accessible address.

Name: The fascia / trading name. Not “Clinic + Best Cardiologist + Weight Loss.”

Do not: Hide a real waiting room, or create one pin per specialist and per suburb from the same suite.

🩺

Named physician

When: Help’s practitioner tests are met — a public-facing doctor who can be contacted at that location during stated hours.

Name: The person’s name (and degree if that is how they are named). Not the organisation name plus a specialty.

Do not: Let every locum, nurse, or “men’s health” service line mint its own pin at the same suite.

Critical: don’t create another listing

When a practice finds the listing suppressed or inaccessible, creating a “clean” replacement multiplies the problem. Help tells you not to create a new Business Profile for the same business while an appeal is under review. If you already did, we can work from the current state — adding more pins during recovery makes resolution harder.

How do we recover a suspended doctor or medical-practice listing?

Medical recovery still follows diagnosis → live-profile corrections → matching evidence → the channel that matches the status. The listing inventory in Step 1 is what changes the path: clinic vs physician pins, group-practice duplicates, suspension, ownership, or a mix. Google decides the outcome and the calendar.

1

Listing inventory — clinic pins, physician pins, system pins

Every GBP listing tied to the practice: the one you can open, the ones you lost, agency-created pins, named-physician profiles at the same suite, and other health-system locations on the same account. That inventory decides whether this is a duplicate problem, a suspension, an ownership request, or a mix — those are different Help paths.

2

Compliance audit — name, specialty categories, suite, phone

For suspensions we audit the live listing against Help with physician risk in mind: name vs fascia and licence, MD/DO placement, specialty categories, phone (local vs system scheduling), suite/address documentation, and account-level flags. For duplicates we identify which profile holds the reviews before anyone clicks merge.

3

Corrections — fix the live clinic before you file

Name reverted to the real-world practice or physician name. Categories that describe what the clinic is. Phone that rings this location when you have one. Address Line 2 matching the medical-plaza or campus suite. Help tells you to make sure the profile follows guidelines before you appeal. Filing over an unchanged listing repeats the same case.

4

Documentation package — medical evidence, not a van packet

Clinic or professional-corporation registration, utility bill or bank statement at the clinic address, photo identification, and — for shared medical buildings — a lease page or directory photo of the suite. GBP Fixers observation: NPI / medical-board / GMC / provincial-college records are supporting identity files, not a published Google “NPI required” rule. Names and addresses on those files should match the listing.

5

Submission and review-preservation check

Merge or duplicate handling when two pins represent the same clinic; the reinstatement / appeals tool path for suspended or disabled profiles; request ownership when access is the issue. After Google’s decision we compare review count to the pre-suspension baseline. Review preservation is a checkpoint — not a promise Google will combine histories a particular way.

Sacramento Urgent Care — Hard Suspension After a Live Listing Change — Sacramento, CA

11 days
Google’s decision in this case

Problem

A multi-physician urgent care in Sacramento lost Maps and Search visibility. The documented trigger was a healthcare-category / service-menu conflict on the live profile — not a dental-style associate pin farm and not a law-firm partner lockout.

Action

We audited the live listing, corrected the category and service fields that did not match how the clinic actually operates, and submitted a documentation package that tied the practice to the listed address. Google decides which evidence it accepts.

Outcome

Listing reinstated in 11 days. Reviews on the original profile were visible again after Google’s decision. That calendar is this case — not a promised window for the next medical practice.

Which type of GBP suspension does a medical practice have?

Clinic-versus-physician pin collisions, access loss, and a hard Maps removal can look similar from the waiting-room side. The dashboard and appeals tool name the state.

Not all GBP suspensions are the same. Duplicate listing suppression, a vague “guidelines” email, and a listing removed from Maps require different first moves. Match the status before you file.

When isn't Google Help enough for a doctor or medical-practice listing?

This is for practice owners and clinic managers whose Google Help / DIY appeal came back denied or Not Approved — especially clinic-versus-practitioner name collisions, health-system phone or ownership splits, specialty stuffing, or a waiting-room video that filmed patients or the wrong suite — and who need a changed evidence pack, not another identical form.

Google alone decides every appeal and reinstatement outcome and timing. Specialists help with diagnosis, matching evidence, and the correct process when Help Center / DIY steps stall — they do not override Google or promise a result.

What do doctors and medical practices ask about GBP suspension?

Should the Google listing use the clinic name or the doctor’s personal name? +
Match how the practice is known on the fascia, website, and stationery. Help’s representation guidelines name doctors as individual practitioners. A multi-physician clinic should have a location profile for the practice, separate from any public-facing physician’s own profile. The practitioner title should be the person’s name only — not “Riverside Family Medicine — Jane Chen Cardiology.” Help allows title or degree certification on a practitioner profile (examples: Dr., MD). DO, MBBS, or FRCS is the same kind of credential: use it on a physician’s own profile when it is how that doctor is named, not as keyword padding on the clinic listing. A solo physician who is the only public-facing practitioner at a branded clinic should use Help’s format [clinic]: [physician name]. Nurses, medical assistants, and call-centre agents are not eligible practitioners. See name guidelines.
How should a multi-location medical group or health system set up Google Business Profiles? +
One profile per staffed, patient-accessible clinic — not one pin per advertising suburb or per MyChart region. Help allows separate location profiles when each site has its own staff and can receive patients during stated hours. A hospital outpatient department, urgent-care bay, or satellite office is eligible only if patients can actually visit that address during the hours on the profile. A registered-agent suite, empty exam room used two days a month, or a physician’s home used only for telehealth is not an eligible storefront. Give each real clinic its own address (suite on Line 2) and, when you can, a phone that rings that site rather than a system-wide scheduling line that also sits on other Maps pins. See duplicate listing and the cross-industry multi-location / DSO hub.
Does stuffing specialties or extra medical categories into the listing trigger a suspension? +
It can. Help says the name should be the real-world clinic or physician name; unnecessary information in the name is not permitted and could result in suspension. “Best Primary Care Cardiologist Weight Loss Urgent Care [City]” belongs in other fields. Categories must complete “this business is a…” — Family practice, Internist, Medical clinic, Urgent care center, Cardiologist, Dermatologist — not a stack of every service you have ever billed. A practitioner should not run multiple Business Profiles to cover every specialisation. See category guidelines.
Does Google require HIPAA-compliant video verification for doctors? +
No. Google does not publish a HIPAA-specific Business Profile video-verification policy. HIPAA is a US healthcare privacy law for covered entities — it is not a Google Help heading, and it does not apply to UK/Canada clinics as a Google rule. Help’s prohibited-content policy does disallow publishing private or confidential information (including sensitive records and images that contain personal information) on the profile. GBP Fixers observation (not a Google HIPAA rule): record after hours or with an empty waiting room; do not film identifiable patients, wristbands, EHR screens, paper charts, or exam-room whiteboards. Reviewers need to see the clinic at the listed pin — they do not need PHI. See video verification.
Will GBP Fixers guarantee doctor reinstatement, a 3–7 day restore, or faster results as a Google Partner? +
No. Google alone decides outcomes and timing. Google Partner status is a Google Ads partnership — it is not a Business Profile privilege, a private Help queue, or a faster restore. We help with diagnosis and evidence. We do not invent win rates or day-count promises on this page.
Why do doctors and medical practices get suspended or lose access to their Google Business Profile? +
Two different problems get lumped together. Clinic pins and named-physician pins at the same suite can suppress the primary listing. Policy issues on the live profile — specialty-stuffed names, category sprawl, shared health-system booking numbers, telehealth homes shown as walk-in clinics — can suspend or disable the listing. Ownership lockouts (former practice manager, agency, or health-system IT) are not the same as a suspension. Each path is different. Do not create a new listing while you diagnose. See ownership hijacked and suspended without reason.
Our group practice has eight doctors at one address. Can each have a Google listing? +
Help allows public-facing physicians their own practitioner profiles when they can be contacted at that location during stated hours — named as the person, not as the organisation. The clinic still needs one location profile. Support staff should not create profiles. Pins titled “Riverside Family Medicine — Dr. Chen Weight Loss” at the same suite are the collision we see. Inventory every pin before you file. Free case review or (855) 939-4111.
We are telehealth-only. Should we show a clinic address on Google? +
If patients never visit a staffed clinic, do not publish a house, mailbox, or virtual office as a walk-in medical storefront. Help’s storefront-versus-service-area split is about whether customers visit you. A true telehealth practice with no patient-facing address is a different eligibility model from a family-medicine waiting room. Hybrid practices that keep a clinic and also do video visits should show the clinic address. Do not invent a “clinic” sign for a residence that is not staffed for patients.
Our health system uses one central scheduling number on every clinic pin. Is that a problem? +
Help asks for a phone number that connects to the individual business location and, where possible, a local line under that location’s direct control — not a number that redirects callers to a different landing line. GBP Fixers observation: system-wide MyChart / call-centre numbers that also appear on other Maps pins are a recurring medical-group risk. Prefer a number that rings this clinic when you have one.
We added “Best Primary Care” or “Urgent Care + Weight Loss” to our Google Business name. Did that cause our suspension? +
That pattern matches Help’s name rules: the name should be the real-world practice name; service, quality, and location extras belong in other fields. Unnecessary information in the name is not permitted and can result in suspension. Revert to the fascia / registration name, then document it. Specialties go in categories and services — not as title spam.
A former practice manager or marketing agency still controls our listing. What do we do? +
Treat it as an ownership problem, not a reason to publish a second clinic pin. Google’s published path is to request ownership / request access with proof the practice is authorised to manage the profile. See ownership hijacked.
Our clinic moved to a new suite in the same medical plaza. Now the listing is suspended. What happened? +
An address change is a high-risk edit. Google may require re-verification that the practice operates at the new pin. Suite numbers in medical buildings, a lease that still shows the old unit, or signage that has not moved with you are mismatches reviewers can see. Establish the new address on documents and on the live listing before you file again.
What documents does a medical practice need for GBP reinstatement? +
Help lists examples such as official registration, a business licence, tax certificates, and utility bills, with name and address matching the profile you are appealing. For medical practices that package typically includes professional-corporation or clinic registration, a utility bill or bank statement at the clinic address, and photo identification. GBP Fixers observation (not a Google NPI rule): we also attach US NPI / state medical-board, UK GMC, or Canadian provincial-college records as supporting identity files because those directories are public. NPI and licence numbers do not belong stuffed into the Maps title. Medical-building suites often need a lease page or directory photo that shows the same unit as Address Line 2. Google decides which evidence it accepts.
What is the difference between a soft suspension and a hard suspension for a doctor listing? +
Owners use “soft” when the listing is still findable but management access is gone, and “hard” when the Maps/Search card is gone. Google’s Help language is suspended or disabled, with the appeals tool showing a reason and policy link. Match the exact dashboard and tool status — including suspended without reason when the email is vague — before you file.
Will our patient reviews be preserved if the listing is reinstated? +
Google reinstates the original profile when it approves an appeal — it does not automatically mint a new listing with a blank review history. The Sacramento urgent-care case documented on this page kept its reviews after reinstatement. That calendar outcome is case history, not a promise. Reviews can split if a second listing was created during downtime, or if a profile was permanently deleted rather than suspended. We check review count after restoration. Google decides.
How long does doctor or medical-practice GBP reinstatement take? +
Google alone decides timing. We do not publish a 3–7 day average or a promised window. The Sacramento urgent-care case documented on this page records Google’s decision in 11 days after the live listing and evidence pack were corrected — that is case history, not a guarantee for the next clinic. Help’s appeal articles describe Google’s own review windows for the appeals tool; those are Google’s, not a GBP Fixers recovery SLA.
Google is asking our clinic to verify by video. What should we show? +
Show the listed pin: exterior signage, the public entrance and suite number, an empty reception / waiting room with the practice name visible, and posted licences if they hang in public view. Do not film patients, exam rooms with charts, or EHR screens. We prepare the walkthrough; we do not join Google’s call. Details: video verification help and video verification failed.
