A suspension means Google has removed your listing from Maps and Search — either "soft" (listing hidden but accessible in your account) or "hard" (account disabled). A verification failure is a separate issue where your listing exists but Google will not publish it until you complete a verification method — usually video. Both require different recovery approaches.
How do I know what type of GBP problem I have? +
The clearest signal is what you see in your Google Business Profile dashboard. If it says "Suspended," use the Suspended diagnosis above. If you can see the listing but it says "Pending verification" or your video was rejected, that is a verification issue. If you submitted an appeal and got a rejection email, that routes to the Appeal Rejected section.
My listing disappeared from Google Maps — is it suspended? +
Not necessarily. A listing can disappear from Maps for several reasons: suspension (most common), a duplicate listing overriding yours, a category or content violation flagged by a local guide, or a Maps data update. Can I recover a suspended GBP myself, or do I need professional help? +
Mild, first-time soft suspensions with clear causes — like an address change or a simple policy violation — can sometimes be resolved through the standard reinstatement request process. Hard suspensions, repeat suspensions, and cases where multiple appeals have already failed are significantly harder to self-resolve. Rejections happen most often because the signage is not visible, the reviewer cannot match the address to the video, or the video quality is too low.
