Google Business Profile Verification Types

Google offers five verification methods. Which one is available to you depends on your business type, location, and account history.

🎥

Video Verification

Google schedules a live video call to confirm your business location. A Google support agent appears on screen and asks you to walk around your business premises showing specific items. Failure means starting the process again — often with a longer wait.

How we help

We prepare you step-by-step: exactly what to show, what to say, how long each element should take, and the most common failure reasons to avoid.

⏱ 3–7 days for scheduling + preparation
📬

Postcard Verification

Google mails a physical postcard with a PIN code to your business address. The code must be entered in your GBP dashboard within 30 days of issue. Common problems: postcard delivered to wrong address, PIN expired, or address hidden (SAB).

How we help

We guide you through requesting a new postcard, confirm the correct address for delivery, and manage the PIN entry process.

⏱ 5–14 days for postcard delivery
📞

Phone Verification

Google sends an automated call or SMS with a verification code to the number on your listing. Not always available — depends on the business type and account history.

How we help

We confirm eligibility and guide you through the process. If phone verification isn't available for your listing, we identify the correct alternative.

📧

Email Verification

A verification code is sent to an email address associated with the business. Available for some business types — typically established businesses with strong account histories.

How we help

We confirm eligibility and handle the end-to-end verification process with you.

⏱ Same day when available
🔍

Search Console Verification

If your business website is verified in Google Search Console, Google may offer instant GBP verification. Requires matching the website domain to the GBP listing.

How we help

We set up the Search Console connection and complete the verification process.

Common GBP Verification Problems — and How We Fix Them

Video verification call failed

The most common cause: showing the wrong items in the wrong order, not having business signage visible, or not being at the correct address when the call happens. Each failed call typically extends your waiting period.

Postcard never arrived

Postcards go missing for several reasons: incorrect address on the listing, the postcard was discarded as junk mail, or the listing has a hidden address (SAB) and Google sent it to the account address instead.

Verification code not working

PIN codes expire after 30 days. If you receive a postcard but delay entering the PIN, or miskey it multiple times, the code becomes invalid and you must request a new verification.

Listing stuck in "Pending verification" for weeks

Some listings enter a manual review queue after verification is initiated — especially in high-scrutiny categories (locksmiths, HVAC, lawyers). The listing appears to be awaiting verification but no action has been taken by Google.

Verification passes but listing still not live

After successful verification, some listings undergo a secondary content review before going live. This is more common for new listings in high-fraud categories or listings with policy warnings in the account.

Our Verification Recovery Process

1

Verification Diagnosis

We assess your current verification status: what method was initiated, what went wrong, what your account history shows, and what verification options are available for your business type and category.

2

Configuration Check

We review your GBP listing configuration before verification — ensuring the business name, address, category, and phone number are fully compliant. Attempting verification with a policy-violating listing will fail regardless of the method used.

3

Verification Method Selection

We identify the fastest available verification path for your listing — whether that's requesting a new video call appointment, restarting the postcard process, or connecting Search Console for instant verification.

4

Preparation and Execution

For video verification: we walk you through exact preparation steps — what to show, in what order, what to have visible, and how to respond to the verifier's questions. For other methods: we manage the process end-to-end.

5

Post-Verification Optimisation

Once verified, we optimise your listing for maximum Maps visibility: complete all profile fields, upload optimised photos, set service categories correctly, and establish a baseline for GBP health.

GBP Verification Service — FAQ

What is Google Business Profile verification? +
Google Business Profile verification is the process Google uses to confirm that a business exists at the address or service area it claims on its listing. Verification proves to Google that the listing represents a real, operating business. Until a listing is verified, it has limited visibility and cannot access all GBP features. Google offers several verification methods: video call, postcard, phone, email, and Search Console.
Why won't my Google Business Profile verify? +
Common reasons include: the business address doesn't match Google's records, the verification method failed (video call failed, postcard not received, PIN expired), the business is in a high-scrutiny category that requires manual review, or the listing has been flagged for a policy issue that must be resolved before verification can complete.
How long does Google Business Profile verification take? +
Timeline depends on the verification method: phone and email verification happen the same day. Postcard verification takes 5–14 days for delivery. Video verification is scheduled 3–7 days out and takes 15–30 minutes to complete. Manual review after verification can add 1–2 weeks for high-scrutiny categories.
What happens if I fail the video verification call? +
A failed video verification call means you must restart the process — typically waiting another 1–2 weeks for the next available slot. Each failure can also increase Google's scrutiny of your listing. GBP Fixers prepares you specifically to pass on the first attempt, covering exactly what to show, how to show it, and what the verifier is looking for.
Can I get my GBP verified if I operate from home? +
Yes, but home-based businesses face specific challenges. If you serve customers at their location (SAB), you should hide your address — which affects postcard delivery. If you serve customers at your home, you can show the address but will need to demonstrate a legitimate business presence during video verification. GBP Fixers advises on the correct setup for your situation.
What do I need to show during a Google video verification call? +
Typically: exterior of the business address showing the street number or building signage, interior workspace or reception area, visible branded signage with the business name, and operational evidence (equipment, tools, waiting area, etc.). The verifier may ask specific questions about the business. GBP Fixers provides a complete preparation checklist for your business type.
