Google Business Profile Permanently Closed — How to Reopen (or Fix a Mistake)
If Google Maps or Search shows your business as Permanently closed while you’re still open — or you marked it closed by mistake — treat it as a hours/status problem, not automatically as a suspension.
Free case review · USA, UK & Canada · Google decides status, verification, and review moves
Google’s Help explains that when a location closes, the Business Profile can display “Temporarily closed” or “Permanently closed” on Maps and Search. A permanently closed profile may still appear for people who search for it, but it clearly shows the business is closed. Help also documents how to reopen: Edit profile → Hours → set the business Open with main hours (or open with no main hours if you don’t want hours shown).
One critical Help warning: if the profile was marked permanently closed as part of a location or name change, do not reopen it. Instead, add a new business, verify the new profile, and contact Google if you need reviews moved.
GBP Fixers helps owners in the USA, UK, and Canada triage closed status vs suspension vs duplicate vs ownership loss. Google alone decides status changes, verification, and review moves — no agency can promise a specific outcome.

This is not the same problem as permanently suspended (enforcement). Permanently closed is a Maps/Search hours status. Permanently suspended is a closed or closed-feeling appeal path.
Permanently closed vs lookalike problems
| What you’re seeing | Likely bucket | First move |
|---|---|---|
| Maps badge: Permanently closed; dashboard still accessible | Closed status (Help) | Reopen via Hours if still the same business at same place — unless closed for move/rename |
| Temporarily closed | Temporary status | Help: use temporarily closed for >7 days / off-season / indefinite; ≤7 days → special hours |
| Suspended / disabled / removed | Enforcement | Suspended · Disabled · Permanently suspended |
| Pin gone / hard to find | Mixed diagnosis | Maps listing recovery |
| Closed after move or rename | Help: don’t reopen old pin | Add + verify new profile; ask Google about moving reviews |
| Someone else edited / suggested closed | Ownership or Maps suggestion | Confirm managers; ownership hijacked if access is wrong |
This page owns permanently closed / reopen / temporary closed language. Suspension recovery stays on enforcement hubs. If the pin is simply hard to find after a status change, continue on Maps listing recovery.
What to stop doing immediately
✕ Don’t create a duplicate “open” listing next to a closed one
A second pin for the same business at the same address risks duplicate-listing enforcement.
✕ Don’t reopen a profile that was closed because you moved or renamed
Help says add a new business instead — then verify it and ask Google about moving reviews.
✕ Don’t confuse permanently closed with permanently suspended
Different problems, different fixes. Closed is hours/status. Suspension is enforcement.
✕ Don’t ignore manager access
If you can’t edit Hours, you may not control the profile.
✕ Don’t pay for “instant reopen guarantees”
Google processes status and verification. Agencies help with diagnosis and the correct Help path.
✕ Don’t mark permanently closed as a workaround for suspension
Closing the listing does not replace an appeal path.
Step-by-step: what to do next
Screenshot Maps + dashboard
Capture the public “Permanently closed” label, the Maps URL, and whether you can still open Edit profile → Hours.
Decide: same business, same place?
If yes and the close was a mistake or a temporary shutdown that ended, use Help’s reopen path. If the close was because you moved or changed the name, Help says do not reopen — create a new Business Profile instead.
Reopen (same place / same identity)
Help: Business Profile → Edit profile → Hours → Open with main hours → set days/hours → Save. Or Open with no main hours if you don’t want hours shown.
If you need temporary closed instead
Help: temporarily closed for closures more than 7 days, off-season, or indefinite; use special hours when closed 7 days or less. Temporarily closed businesses can rank after open businesses on some broad queries (Help tip — factors vary).
If you moved or renamed
Add a new Business Profile for the new location/name, complete verification, and contact Google if you need reviews moved to the new profile (Help). Do not try to “reopen” the old closed pin as a shortcut.
If you can’t edit Hours
Confirm you’re signed into an owner/manager account. If access is gone, follow ownership hijacked. If the profile is suspended, use suspension guides first.
Still invisible after reopen?
Reopen doesn’t fix ranking or suspension. Continue diagnosis on Maps listing recovery and the suspended hub.
