San Jose profiles and the California Contractors State License Board
This page is for a Google Business Profile problem in San Jose: a suspension, a verification stall, or a service-area setup that does not match how the business works. The City of San Jose site is the municipal site. Appeals are not filed there. They go through Google's process. Our write-up of that work is suspension recovery and, when the block is verification, GBP verification. Google decides both.
California licenses contractors through the Contractors State License Board, not through a Texas or Arizona board. CSLB's Check a License page says you can look up a contractor license or a Home Improvement Salesperson registration, including complaint disclosure. The same page says a California contractor license number does not contain letters and should be entered from the left, up to eight digits. You can also search by business name or by the person's name. Use that lookup when a San Jose profile should show the same business the license names. CSLB does not publish the Maps listing.
Santa Clara and Sunnyvale (South Bay) and Fremont (East Bay) are separate cities, each with a city site: Santa Clara, Sunnyvale, and Fremont. A service-area business based in San Jose can name cities it serves. Google's service-area help allows up to 20 areas, as cities, postal codes, or other areas, and it rejects a radius. If you do not receive customers at the San Jose address, hide it. Google's guidelines say service-area businesses should hide the address, and that a P.O. box is not an acceptable address. The signup page also says one profile for the metropolitan area, because another profile for the same business in that area can lead to a suspension.
